SEND at Landscove
At Landscove, we recognise all children as individuals and know that for various reasons, many children may need support at some time in school, whether this be for a few months or their whole time with us. We aim to identify every child’s needs as they arise and provide teaching and learning that will enable all individuals to succeed as well as meeting their emotional needs so that they can be happy in school. Where necessary, we work with a range of professionals such as the speech & language team or educational psychologists to ensure we are matching our provision to the needs of the child. Support may be given in school by both a teacher and a teaching assistant and it is vitally important that we work with you, the family too. We strive to ensure that no child is invisible and is fully included in all we do. In the first instance it is always best to speak to the class teacher if you have a concern.
SEND: Broad Areas of Need
–for example, where children and young people have speech, language and communication difficulties which make it difficult for them to make sense of language or to understand how to communicate effectively and appropriately with others.
Cognition and learning
–for example, where children and young people learn at a slower pace than others their age, have difficulty in understanding parts of the curriculum, have difficulties with organisation and memory skills, or have a specific difficulty affecting one particular part of their learning performance such as in literacy or numeracy.
Social, emotional and mental health difficulties
– for example, where children and young people have difficulty in managing their relationships with other people, are withdrawn, or if they behave in ways that may hinder their and other children’s learning, or that have an impact on their health and wellbeing.
Sensory and/or physical needs
–for example, children and young people with visual and/or hearing impairments, or a physical need that means they must have additional ongoing support and equipment. Some children and young people may have SEN that covers more than one of these areas.
What is a SENDCo?
The SENDCo has an important role to play with the head teacher and governing body, in determining the strategic development of SEN policy and provision in the school.
The SENDCo has day to day responsibility for the operation of SEN policy and coordination of specific provision made to support individual pupils with SEND and meeting with other relevant professionals/ outside agencies. The SENDCo provides professional guidance to colleagues and will work closely with staff, parents and other agencies. They work with professionals providing a support role to families to ensure that pupils with SEN receive appropriate support and high quality teaching.
The SENDCo for Landscove is Rosina Kellman who has significant experience and expertise in all aspects of inclusion. Please ask at the office should you wish to make an appointment to meet with her. All our staff support our inclusive ethos and regularly attend training.

We are very lucky to be supported by Link Academy's Inclusion Hub. This offers the school the support of a lead professional who can support and advise. It also facilitates and supports referrals to external agencies or applications for EHCPs. They also run a SEMH provision at woodlands in one of our other Trust schools at Hennock that we can refer children to. Follow the link below for more information.
